Tourist Attractions In Fairfield County
Hello everyone!
Let’s talk about some tourist attractions in Fairfield County in Connecticut today!
As always, my point in writing about these places is that any or all of them are intriguing to all of you reading, enough that you will want to check them out.
The first tourist attraction is The Arthur A Harris Linear Park in Brookfield, which is a multi-use trail along the Still River.
The next tourist attraction is what used to be The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, but has since been turned into a place that I have talked about several times already, The Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater.
The next tourist attraction is the Bowman Observatory in Greenwich, which features a telescope.
The next tourist attraction is the Bridgeport Islanders, which is the American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Islanders, and plays at the Total Mortgage Arena.
The next tourist attraction is The Bronson Windmill, which is a historic windmill in Fairfield.
The next tourist attraction is Brookfield Craft Center, which teaches subjects such as basketry, beadwork, blacksmithing, bladesmithing, ceramics, glass, jewelry making, metalsmithing, fiber and weaving, woodturning, woodworking, photography, paper and book arts, decorative arts, painting and drawing, and business/marketing for artists.
The next tourist attraction is the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, which is a theater located in the historic Curtis School for Boys gymnasium building, and hosts events like films, plays, and musical performances.
The next tourist attraction is Candlewood Lake, which is located in Fairfield and Litchfield Counties, and it’s bordered by Danbury and Brookfield in Fairfield County.
The next tourist attraction is The Connecticut Audubon Society Center At Fairfield, which features classrooms for environmental education programs, live animals on display, natural history exhibits, a nature library, a solar greenhouse, a gift shop, and a compound with rescued birds of prey.
The next tourist attraction is a fast food restaurant chain called Duchess, which was founded in Bridgeport, and has 12 locations in Connecticut today.
The next tourist attraction is Earthplace in Westport, which is a non-profit science education organization with a focus on the natural world and sustainability.
The next tourist attraction is a work of public art known as Gladys The Swiss Dairy Cow, which can currently be found in Monroe.
The next tourist attraction is one that I have been to several times, and one that is easily one of my favorite places in Fairfield County: Grace Farms in New Canaan, which is an 80 acre cultural and humanitarian center.
The next tourist attraction is Great Captain Island, which is off the coast of Greenwich.
The next tourist attraction is The Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, which is an annual event in June that features classic American and European vintage cars that are entered into a judging competition.
The next tourist attraction is the Greenwich International Film Festival.
The next tourist attraction is The Hampton Inn in New Canaan, not to be confused with the hotel chain of the same name, which is a former historic hotel property that is a three story wood frame Colonial Revival structure and was built as a vacation boarding house.
The next tourist attraction is Lake Lillinonah, which is a man made lake located in Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven Counties, is the second largest lake in Connecticut, and is bordered by towns like Brookfield and Newtown.
The next tourist attraction is Longshore Sailing School in Westport, which teaches sailing and paddling.
The next tourist attraction is a building in Danbury that used to be home to Meeker’s Hardware, which was a four story building that originally opened in 1889 and closed in 2013, and is also the only hardware store on the National Register Of Historic Places.
The next tourist attraction is the New Canaan Nature Center, which is a botanical garden, arboretum, and nature preserve.
The next tourist attraction is Nichols Farms Historic District in Trumbull.
The next tourist attraction is The Regina A. Quick Center For The Arts, which is a theatre at Fairfield University.
The next tourist attraction is another one that I have written about several times, The Ridgefield Playhouse.
The next tourist attraction is The Ridgefield Rail Trail, which follows an old rail corridor for 2.3 miles from Downtown Ridgefield to the Branchville section of town, and can be used for walking, jogging, and cross-country skiing.
The next tourist attraction is Riverside Avenue Bridge in Greenwich, which is the only cast-iron bridge in Connecticut, and one of a small number still in use in the United States.
The next tourist attraction is Rolnick Observatory in Westport, which is an astronomical observatory operated by The Westport Astronomical Society.
The next tourist attraction is The Sacred Heart University Community Theatre in Fairfield, which has a very interesting history. It first opened in 1920 as a local movie house, added a second screen room in 1979, was attempted to be run as an art house by the Loew’s chain in the late 90s, and when that was unsuccessful, it closed in spring 2001, reopened as the Fairfield Community Theatre Foundation later that same year, closed again in 2011, and was reopened in 2021 after being purchased by Sacred Heart University.
The next tourist attraction is The Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge in Westbrook.
The next tourist attraction is Still River Greenway in Brookfield, which is a multi-use trail and greenway that goes along the Still River.
The next tourist attraction is another one that I have been to a few times: The Trumbull Mall.
The next tourist attraction is The Westport Country Playhouse, which is a not-for-profit regional theater that has had many notable performances over the years.
The next tourist attraction is Woodcock Nature Center in Wilton.
The next tourist attraction is another one that I have been to several times, and it’s one that I’m sure almost all of you reading have been to before: Danbury Fair Mall.
The next tourist attraction is Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
The next tourist attraction is The William A. O’Neill Athletic & Convocation Center in Danbury, which is also at Western Connecticut State University.
The next tourist attraction is Rogers Park in Danbury, which is a 56 acre public park with six baseball fields, four softball fields, a multi-purpose turf field, eight tennis courts, seven volleyball courts, four handball-paddleball courts, a spray park, a playground, an outdoor ice rink during the winter, a concession stand, a pond with a hiking/nature trail, the War Memorial building, several veterans monuments and the Charles Ives House.
The next tourist attraction is Tarrywile Park in Danbury, which is a large municipal park with 722 acres of rolling hills with woodlands, fields, and ponds, and the Tarrywile Mansion.
The next tourist attraction is The Danbury Museum And Historical Society, which is home to five historic buildings, which are Huntington Hall, The 1785 Rider House, The 1790 John Dodd Hat Shop, The Little Red Schoolhouse, and The Marian Anderson Studio.
The next tourist attraction is another one that I have been to several times, The Danbury Railway Museum.
The next tourist attraction is Black Rock Harbor in Bridgeport, which is along The Long Island Sound.
The next tourist attraction is another one that I have been to a few times: Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport.
The next tourist attraction is The Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport, which has welcomed artists like Pat Benatar, George Carlin, B.B. King, Bob Newhart, and Alice Cooper.
The next tourist attraction is The Nathaniel Wheeler Memorial Fountain in Bridgeport, which consists of four elements, which are a mermaid rising out of a polished granite pool and three individually ornamented polished granite watering troughs at the angles of the triangular parcel of land raised above the street.
The next tourist attraction is Newfield Park in Bridgeport.
The next tourist attraction is Seaside Park in Bridgeport, which is a 2.5 mile long crescent-shaped park that borders Bridgeport Harbor, Long Island Sound, and Black Rock Harbor, and has also been used as a venue for concerts in the past.
The next tourist attraction is The Barnum Museum in Bridgeport, which has an extensive collection related to P.T. Barnum and the history of Bridgeport.
The next tourist attraction is The Discovery Science Center And Planetarium in Bridgeport, which is a children’s science museum.
The next tourist attraction is The Housatonic Museum Of Art at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport.
The next tourist attraction is on that I have been to several times: Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk.
The next tourist attraction is The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion in Norwalk, which is now a museum.
The next tourist attraction is one of my favorite places in Connecticut: The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk.
The next tourist attraction is Mill Hill Historic Park in Norwalk, which is a living history museum that consists of three buildings, which are The 1740 Governor Thomas Fitch IV Law Office, The 1826 Downtown District Schoolhouse, and The 1835 Norwalk Town Hall.
The next tourist attraction is Norwalk Harbor.
The next tourist attraction is Norwalk River Valley Trail, which is a multi-use trail that is still under construction, and when it is completed, it will travel from Norwalk all the way to Danbury, at a total of 38 miles.
The next tourist attraction is The Norwalk Oyster Festival, which is an annual fair that is held on the first weekend after Labor Day in Veterans Park in Norwalk, which is near Long Island Sound.
The next tourist attraction is Sheffield Island Light in Norwalk, which is a historic lighthouse located at the southern end of the Norwalk Islands.
The next tourist attraction is one that I went to a few times when I was younger: Stepping Stones Museum For Children in Norwalk.
The next tourist attraction is one that only opened seven years ago: The SoNo Collection, which is a mall in Norwalk.
The next tourist attraction is one that I have been to several times: Bartlett Arboretum And Gardens in Stamford.
The next tourist attraction is one that I have been to a few times: Cove Island Park in Stamford, which is an 83 acre park, beach, and recreation area.
The next tourist attraction is Cummings Park in Stamford, which consists of 79 acres of shorefront property on Long Island Sound.
The next tourist attraction is The Hoyt-Barnum House in Stamford, which is a Cape Cod cottage style house that was built around 1699, and is the oldest extant house in the city of Stamford.
The next tourist attraction is a place that I think I have been to once: Mianus River State Park in Stamford and Greenwich.
The next tourist attraction is another place that I have been to several times: Mill River Park in Downtown Stamford, which is a 23 acre urban park that also features the largest cherry tree grove in New England, an indoor carousel, an ice skating rink during the winter, and outdoor concerts during the summer.
The next tourist attraction is one that I have talked about before: The Palace Theatre in Stamford.
The next tourist attraction is The Stamford Cone, which is a 14 meter high stained glass pavilion.
The next tourist attraction is another one that I have been to several times and would like to go to again someday: The Stamford Museum & Nature Center.
The last tourist attraction is one that I have been to so many times, and I will probably go to again simply because I just enjoy walking around it: The Stamford Town Center Mall.
