Summer In The Park

As some of you might remember, last year I wrote about the outdoor summer concert series in Stamford Downtown called Alive At Five. Well, back in November of last year, it was announced that it would never be returning. I was disappointed by this news, but also hopeful that the city of Stamford would come up with an exciting new event. A few weeks ago, Hey Stamford announced that a new event would be coming to Mill River Park called Summer In The Park, which would be happening on three weekends in July. I didn’t know what to expect at this point in time, as I didn’t know if they would want to go big for its first year, or if they would want to take a year off after cancelling Alive At Five before going big again next year. A few days ago, I found my answer, and it was announced that this event is going to be one of the biggest events Stamford has had in a while! In this blog post, I will be discussing everything that is in store for the event this year, in hopes that it will encourage all of you reading to go check it out!

As I said, the event will be covering three weekends in July, the first one being from July 10-13, the second one being from July 17-20, and the third one being from July 24-27.

Each Friday will be called Summer Fun Fridays, and will also feature performances from tribute artists. July 11 will feature a performance from Raise Your Hands, a Bon Jovi tribute band, July 18 will feature a performance from Jammy Buffett, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, and July 25 will feature a performance from ZBTB, a Zac Brown tribute band.

There will also be a number of random events that will be happening at Mill River Park at this time. These include Jazz in the Park on July 13, the Fairfield County Dance Festival on July 15, a Wednesday Night Beer Garden with a DJ on July 16, 23, 30, and August 6, and an Island Vibes Caribbean Fest with a JCC Summer Performance on July 22.

The next event that is going to be part of it is the Colombian Independence Festival on July 19, which is also going to feature a performance from an artist named Fariana.

One of the real highlights of this event is the concerts that they have scheduled. When I first found out that concerts would be a part of it, I had no idea if they were going to be headliner performers or just local performers and cover bands. I quickly found out that they were going to have headliner performers, as on July 24, there will be a performance from rising star Mariah the Scientist, on July 10, there will be a performance from legendary rapper Busta Rhymes, on July 12, there will be a performance from pop duo Aly & AJ, and on July 17 there will be a double header performance with rappers Bow Wow and Soulja Boy. One thing that is interesting to me is that almost all of these headliners have been on The Masked Singer.

The last part of this event is the Hey Stamford Food Festival, which will be happening on July 26 and July 27. There is no information about it for this year yet, but I imagine that it will be the same as past years, with food trucks, vendors, cocktail bars, live cooking demonstrations, and live music perhaps from headliner performers.

Overall, there are a lot of exciting things coming to Mill River Park this summer. So, when July comes, get over there and go check them out!
