Danbury Fair Mall

If you enjoy going to shopping malls in the area, there is a good chance that you have been to the Danbury Fair Mall. This is a 1,226,000 square foot mall that has 192 businesses, six anchor tenants, a variety of events throughout the year, and is also the second largest shopping mall in the state of Connecticut. In this post, I will be discussing the history of the mall, some of its fun features and events, and all the businesses there in hopes that those of you who have never been there will want to go, and those of you who haven’t been there in a while will want to go there again.

The mall was built on land that was formerly used for the yearly exhibition the Danbury Fair, and it opened in 1986 with Sears and G. Fox & Co. as anchor tenants, both of which have since closed. Several other anchor tenants opened in the following years, and some of them also closed either due to bankruptcy or the pandemic, such as Filene’s, Lord & Taylor, and Forever 21. The mall also experienced an interior renovation that was completed in Spring 2008, with notable changes being made to the food court and the center court. The food court now had new banquet seating and a slightly curved panoramic view of the restaurants that reduced the number of restaurants from 16 to 11, while the center court had the large-scale fountains removed and replaced by a Starbucks coffee bar, soft seating with tables, and a down-scaled water feature.

One of the main features of the mall is a double-decker carousel in the food court. I remember it being there when I was younger, but I don’t know if I ever went on it. There is also a carnival there that lasts two weeks starting on Memorial Day weekend, which I remember seeing a few times.

I also have a lot of memories of the stores at the mall I used to go to when I was younger that are no longer there. These were K.B. Toys, The Disney Store, and a toy store called Zany Brainy.
