Trumbull Mall

If you ever find yourself in Fairfield County, one place you might want to check out is the Trumbull Mall! This is a mall that originally opened in 1964, has a total of 169 stores, and has three anchor tenants. In this post, I will discuss the history of the mall, the stores that it has, upcoming events, and plans for big changes at the mall. 

As I already said, the mall first opened in 1964, and it was also the first enclosed shopping mall in Connecticut. It was developed by the Frogue Corporation, acquired by Australian mall operator Westfield Group in 1977, had ownership and management transferred to the Westfield Corporation in 2014, and then to Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield in 2018, and was sold to Namdar Realty Group in early 2023. The mall has also had several unique tenants over the years that have since closed. These include clothing stores like Jordan Marsh, Abraham & Straus, Steve & Barry’s, and UNIQLO, restaurants like Ruby Tuesday and Wahlburgers, and electronics store Circuit City. The mall also suffered the loss of one of their major tenants in 2020, which was Lord & Taylor. One of the most unique former tenants at the mall is certainly SeaQuest, which is an interactive marine, exotic mammal, and bird/reptile life attraction chain. I had the chance to go there a few years ago, but it closed last August after numerous controversies against customers and PETA for mistreatment and abuse of animals. 

The mall has a variety of unique tenants today, which includes three anchors that are common to malls in America, which are Macy’s, JCPenney, and Target. 

The next tenant that they have is another clothing store that is also common to malls in America, which is Aeropostale.

The next tenant there is Aldo, a shoe store that I think is also a common tenant at malls.

The next tenant is one that I have seen at almost every other mall I have been to, which is the Apple Store.

The next tenant there is a restaurant called Arepa Bar & Grill.

The next tenant there is one that I feel is common at malls and has a store in Mount Kisco, which is AT&T. 

The next tenant there is a jewelry and piercing store called Banter. 

The next tenant there is another one that is popular at many other malls, Bath & Body Works. 

The next tenant there is a tattoo and piercing parlor called Bloodlines Tattoo.

The next tenant there is a bubble tea store called Bubbleholic.

The next tenant there is another one that I have seen at many other malls, Build-A-Bear Workshop.

The next tenant there is popular entertainment chain FYE. What’s unique about this location is that it is the first one that opened. I find it incredible that it’s still open to this day, considering that they have closed a ton of locations over the years, and the store opened in 1993.

According to the website for the mall, there are also three businesses that are coming soon. The first one is a bubble tea store called Black Pearl Bubble Tea. The next business that is coming soon is Chuck E. Cheese’s, which I find shocking, as I remember that they were going through financial trouble during the pandemic, and I didn’t think they would be able to open any more locations. The last business that is coming soon is called Trumbull Convenience and Lottery. 

The mall has also had several businesses proposed to bring more customers, such as indoor pickleball courts, a concert venue, a rock-climbing wall, cosmetics store The Body Shop, Dave & Buster’s, Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, Stew Leonard’s, and Market 32. 

They also have an upcoming event on August 17 and 18, which is a Food Truck Festival.

Overall, these are all reasons why this mall is one you should visit the next time you are in Connecticut!
