Alive At Five 2024

As many of you might remember, at the beginning of the year, I made a series of blog posts about Alive at Five in Stamford. One was about the history of the event, and three were about artists that would be great for the event. The last time I mentioned it was in my post about events that will be happening in Stamford Downtown this summer, and now I can share with you all that the shows for this year have been announced! There will be three shows this year on three Thursdays this summer, and I will be sharing with you all who will be performing, and why you should go!

On July 25, the first show will be a performance from reggae rock band Sublime with Rome. As their name suggests, they are a spinoff of legendary 90s reggae rock band Sublime. They got their name because they started off as a collaboration between former Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh and lead singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez, and the fact that they specifically perform songs by Sublime. There are many people who like Sublime, but their career was short lived following the death of lead singer Bradley Nowell, so this is a chance to hear such songs as “Doin’ Time,” “Wrong Way,” “Santeria,” and “What I Got” performed live. If that hasn’t already convinced you to go see them perform, then there is some additional information that you should know. Sublime with Rome is currently embarking on their farewell tour, so this will be one of your last chances to see them perform and hear Rome Ramirez perform classic Sublime songs, and it will also be your only chance to hear them echoing through the streets of Downtown Stamford.

On August 1, the second show is going to be legendary rapper Lil’ Kim, the Queen Bee herself. I think it’s great that she is going to be performing there, as the event has had many rappers over the years, and she is the first female rapper they have had. A lot of her songs are also the type of songs that would get the audience excited and dancing, such as “The Jump Off,” “No Matter What They Say,” and “Whoa.” I also think it’s cool that they have booked an artist as influential as her, as she has often been referred to as the Queen of Rap and the First Lady of Rap and was also described by magazine editor Allison Samuels as having “transcended the male-dominated world of rap to become one of America’s sassiest, most engaging icons.” If the fact that someone as iconic as her performing her songs in Stamford Downtown isn’t enough to convince you to go to her show, you should also know that she has no other upcoming shows, so as of right now, this is your only chance to see her perform this year.

On August 8, the third and final show is going to be rapper and singer Wyclef Jean. I think it’s great that they have two legendary rappers this year. He is also a unique case; in that he is both known for his solo work and for being part of the equally famous and legendary hip hop group Fugees, so it would be cool to hear him perform solo songs like “Gone Till November” and “Cheated (To All the Girls),” and famous Fugees songs like “Fu-Gee-La,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “Ready or Not,” which are all amazing songs to hear coming from Mill River Park. If the opportunity to hear such amazing songs outside in Downtown Stamford isn’t enough to convince you to go see him perform, then I’m sure this will. He currently has no other shows scheduled in North America this year, so much like the other two performers, this could be the only chance you have to see him this year, and perhaps for a while as he doesn’t do that many shows from looking at his past tour dates.

There will also be several options for food and drink there. These include a tent that sells cocktails and cider, a tent that sells wine, a variety of food trucks from the area, and some nearby restaurants that are selling food there as well. The event itself takes place at Mill River Park, and if you don’t want to wait on line to get in and don’t like being in crowded areas, you can do what I have done in the past. You can go to an outer section of the park where you don’t have to pay to get in, and you can still hear the music perfectly.

I hope that everything I have said about the event this year has convinced you to go to any or all three of the shows, and hopefully I will see you all there!
