Stamford Downtown Summer Events

If you are looking for a place that has many fun events that you can go to during the summer, look no further than Stamford Downtown! For the months of June to September, they will be holding several unique events. In this blog post, I will be talking about them and sharing all the information about them that I can.

The first event that they have listed on their website is an outdoor sculpture exhibit that will have sculptures all throughout the downtown area. Every year has a theme to the sculptures, such as dinosaurs, spaceships, ducks, shapes like spheres, cubes, and pyramids, and an exhibit that was different animals made from hedges. This year, they plan on having an exhibit called “ArtNORMOUS,” which is described as consisting of seven monumental bronze sculptures from four regional artists. While this is less sculptures than they usually have in an exhibit, the sculptures will also be bigger than usual. I also saw one of the sculptures when I was in Stamford recently, which was “Hippo Ballerina” by Bjorn Skaarup, which I recognized from usually seeing it on display in Greenwich.

The next event that they have listed on their website is free outdoor fitness classes. These classes happen at both Latham Park and Veterans Memorial Park. The first class that is offered on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM is Bollyfitness, which is a mix of dance and fitness that is all set to Bollywood style music. The next class that is offered on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM is a yoga class. The next class that is offered on Thursdays at 6:30 PM is a Zumba class. The next class that is offered on Saturdays at 9:00 AM is another yoga class. The last class that is offered on Sundays at 9:00 AM is power workout with Rumble Boxing Stamford, where you can learn six punches, the fundamentals of boxing, and experience the rumble round.

The next event that they have listed on their website is outdoor painting classes. This is a guided event that is led by Pinot’s Palette in Stamford and is going to be held at Columbus Park on June 19, August 14, and September 4 at 6:00 PM.

The next event that they have listed on their website is called Street Beats. This is an event that will happen on every Thursday night from 6:00-8:00 and will feature live music from local musicians in select locations throughout the downtown.

The next event that they have listed on their website is Trivia Night, which is done in partnership with local trivia company Best Trivia Ever. The event will be happening in Veterans Memorial Park in front of the Stamford Town Center on June 20, August 22, and September 12. If you want to participate in this event, you will need a team, and there will be questions asked in the fields of pop culture, sports, history, and many other topics. There will also be prizes awarded to the winning team. Another trivia event that I found on the website of Stamford Downtown is a trivia night that happens Wednesdays at 7:30 at an Irish pub called Tiernan’s.

The next event that they have listed on their website is one that I am planning on going to, which is called Bark in the Park. As its name suggests, this is an event that people can bring their dogs to. This event will also feature a photo booth, a free microchip clinic, an adoption area, a treat bar, a blessing of the animals area with a reverend from a church in Stamford, a splash zone, therapy dog evaluations, contests and demos, one of which I remember being a pie eating contest for the dogs, an agility course, and door prize giveaways. There will also be a few vendors there, such as one called Biscuit and Bones, another one called Charlie’s Traveling Treat Truck, a dog grooming company called Magic Groomer LLC, and an obedience school called Sit Means Sit Dog Training. There will also be some non-profits there as well, which are Adopt-A-Dog, Animals-R-Family, Fetch Dog Rescue, Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause, Lucky Dog Refuge, Saving Paws Rescue, Stamford Animal Shelter Alliance, and Stamford Animal Control & Care.

The next event that they have listed on their website is another one that I might want to go to, which is Arts & Crafts on Bedford. I previously wrote about this event when it happened back in October, and I might go this year just to see what it’s like. It will be happening on June 15 and September 14 from 10:00 AM-6:30 PM. According to the description on the website, at this event, people can purchase handcrafted goods made by local and regional artists, and Bedford Street restaurants will be offering extended outdoor patio cafes.

The last event that they have listed on their website for the summer is another that I will probably want to go to, which is their weekly farmer’s market. It will be happening on Saturdays from June 15-October 26 from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Park. It will sell a wide variety of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers, as well as breads, jams, baked goods, cheeses, and oils. While they are not saying what vendors will be there as of right now, I imagine it will be vendors similar to or the same as the ones I have written about at other farmer’s markets.

Another event that I found coming up in Stamford this summer is the 9th Annual Lobsterfest. This is an event that will be taking place at The Beer Garden at Shippan Landing in the Shippan Point part of Stamford on June 20 from 5:00 PM-7:30 PM. Entrees that will be served there include poached Maine lobster, grilled steak, and vegetarian options, choices for sides include potato salad, roasted corn, and black bean salad, and there will also be beer, wine, soda, and ice cream provided by Longford’s Ice Cream.

Another noteworthy event that will be taking place in Downtown Stamford this summer is Stamford Day. This is an event that will be taking place at Mill River Park on June 2 from 10:30 AM-2:30 PM and will be celebrating the founding of Stamford and its diversity today. It will include activities such as a history hunt in the park, coloring projects to create a paper history quilt, raffles, art displays, and music and dance performances.

One more event that will be taking place in Stamford this summer is the outdoor concert series Alive at Five. While they have not announced the performers yet, they have put out some PDFs for the event that confirm when it will happen, but some of the information I have seen is conflicting, as most of the PDFs say that there will be three shows, but one says there will be three shows, and then says there will be five shows in the same PDF. Either way, this is always an exciting event, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they have in store for this year.

Overall, these events all show that Stamford truly is the place to be this summer! I will probably be going to some of these events and others, and I hope to see you all there too!
