Ridgefield Playhouse
If you live in the area of Fairfield County in Connecticut and are looking for a place to see some great shows, head over to the Ridgefield Playhouse!
The venue was opened in the year 1938 as a high school and town theatre. After three decades in business, it was closed in 1972 when a new and larger high school was built. 22 years after that, in 1994, a group of Ridgefield residents joined together and formed Friends of Ridgefield Performing Arts Center. After years of attempting to get the theatre reopened, the town approved the project in 1998. The Ridgefield Playhouse opened in December 2000 with a performance from Jose Feliciano. While its first season of operation only consisted of about twelve shows with the theatre open from September to May, it has since grown to having more than 200 shows a year as well as movies and can hold an audience of 500 people.
The venue still holds many amazing shows to this day under a variety of categories. As part of their comedy series, they will be having rising comedians like Hannah Berner and Ryan Hamilton. They are also going to have Christina P., who is one of the two hosts of the podcast Your Mom’s House. They will also have Brian Regan do a three-night residency on May 9, 10, and 11.
As part of their rock series, they will be having Marc Roberge from the band O.A.R., The Beach Boys, Jason Bonham doing a Led Zeppelin tribute show, legendary soul group The O’Jays on their final tour, and various other tribute acts to artists like The Grateful Dead, Billy Joel, and The Beatles. For the first time ever, they will also be having a show on New Year’s Eve from rock band Gin Blossoms.
As part of their film series, they will have a screening of the classic film “A Christmas Story” on December 13. They will also have a screening of the film “The Graduate” as part of their silver screenings series.
As part of their country and bluegrass series, they will have LeAnn Rimes perform a show on November 16, which has already sold all tickets. A few days later, they will have Rodney Crowell performing, which there are still tickets available for.
As part of their family series, they will have a show that features people who were on The CW series “Masters of Illusion.” They will also have several holiday themed shows, such as Las Vegas act The Clairvoyants presenting their “Holiday Spectacular,” a production of “The Nutcracker,” and a show called “Christmas with the Celts.” They also have two family shows scheduled for next year, which are an illusionist named Reza, and The Grand Shanghai Circus.
They also have several exciting shows coming up as part of their Broadway and Cabaret series. These include a performance from Broadway star Sutton Foster, local resident Chazz Palminteri and his one man show “A Bronx Tale,” star of “Glee” and many Broadway shows Darren Criss presenting a Christmas themed show, and three-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone will be there early next year.
