Holiday Train Shows
If you are a family that enjoys seeing train shows around the holidays, there are several you can go to in the area! Throughout the month of December, several towns in Westchester and Fairfield County will be holding model train shows for the entire family to enjoy.
One of these is at the New Castle Historical Society in Chappaqua, New York. This model train show is inside the old Horace Greeley House that got turned into a museum, and has different train displays in each period room. There are also some new additions this year, such as a LEGO train display of the Harry Potter universe and a custom-made holiday tree train that is over six feet tall with six trains running on six levels.
Another holiday train show is at Lasdon Park in Katonah, New York. The display is in the conservatory and has trains moving along twelve multi-level tracks, over bridges, through tunnels, under waterfalls, and by holiday scenes that have many colorful seasonal plants and decorations. If you want to see something cool here, go to their twilight trains nights. This is where all the trains will be lit up, and the train tables will be glowing with twinkling lights throughout the conservatory.
Another holiday train show is at the Greenburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale, New York. This is a 12 x 18-foot display of model trains going through countryside scenes that are built by the Yonkers Model Railroad Club. The display features things such as a mountain with a train tunnel, a ravine with a train trestle crossing over it, a stream, a model village, railroad crossings, and more. Members of the Yonkers Model Railroad Club will also be there to answer any questions you might have.
There will also be a holiday train show at the Fairfield Museum in Fairfield, Connecticut. This event will have large-scale and small-scale model trains going around winter villages and holiday scenery. Members of the Housatonic Model Railroad Club, the Connecticut G-Scalers Club, and the Central Connecticut G-Gaugers Club will also be there to answer questions and point out details of the collectibles, classic trains, modular dioramas, and antique trains.
One final holiday train show in the area is the Great Trains Holiday Show at the Wilton Historical Society in Wilton, Connecticut. All the historic 18th and 19th century buildings are decorated and transformed with many different model train layouts. These layouts go through small towns that have many different buildings, tunnels, and animals showing up in unexpected places. The displays also have buttons for people to push that will activate something on the display and “train engineers” who are there to “talk trains.” There is also a miniature holiday village that has tiny buildings, people, and activities. It has skaters, children sledding, horses pulling wagons, swans swimming, and Ebeneezer Scrooge in his house.
So, get your tickets and go see some amazing model train layouts near you!
