Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular
If you enjoy watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade but think it’s too much of a challenge to go down to the city to see it, just head on over to Stamford!
On November 19, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the city of Stamford will be holding its 30th annual Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular. This is another Thanksgiving helium balloon parade that will bring in the holiday season. It is easier to get to this parade than it is to get to the Macy’s parade, and you also don’t have to arrive as early.
The parade itself features several marching bands from nearby high schools, many local dance groups, several floats that are on flatbeds pulled by trucks, and giant helium balloons of famous characters.
The marching bands that they will have this year are from Stamford, Uniondale, Brentwood, Trumbull, Port Chester, Hartford, and Waterbury. While six of these marching bands are from high schools, and two are from Stamford, the marching band from Port Chester is the Saints Brigade Drum and Bugle Corps, the marching band from Hartford is the Proud Drill Drum & Dance Corps, and they will also have the NYPD Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Band.
While they have not yet announced who the dance groups in the parade this year are, it’s safe to assume they will be having the same ones they have every year. These include Center Stage Dance Studio and Locust Performing Arts Center, which are both located in Stamford, City Center Dance in White Plains, The Pulse Performing Arts Nova Jazz, and Hoop Girls from Stamford.
They also have not officially confirmed what the floats will be this year, but they are consistent with what they have every year. These include a teacher of the year float that honors a teacher at one of Stamford’s schools, a float for one of the Connecticut radio stations, and a float with Santa at the end of the parade.
This year, they plan on having 14 giant helium balloons, and as of right now we only know seven of them. They plan on having Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street, Bob the Builder, Daniel Tiger, Elmo, Mr. Potato Head, Oscar the Grouch, and Peppa Pig.
The day before the parade, on November 18, they will be having the Inflation Party from 3:00 to 6:00. This event will give people a closer look at the balloons as they are inflated, and there will also be entertainment from dancers and acrobats.
The parade itself kicks off at 12:00, so go ahead and enjoy a very fun event!
