New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade

If you are looking for a Thanksgiving parade you can go to with the entire family, head over to New Rochelle!

On Saturday, November 18, the city of New Rochelle will hold its 59th annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. Much like the Macy’s Parade and the Stamford parade, it features clowns, fire trucks, marching bands, floats, and giant helium balloons of famous characters. This year’s parade will also feature vintage cars, characters from Paw Patrol, superheroes, and many other things.

While there isn’t much information about this year’s parade that has been made public, from looking at articles about previous years, it can be assumed that some elements of the parade will carry over into this year. It seems that each year there is a theme to the parade. The theme of the 2021 parade was “Thankful for Essential Workers,” which honored frontline workers during the pandemic. For the 2022 parade, the theme was “Celebrating a Century of Service,” which was a salute to the 100th anniversary of the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.

It can also be assumed that they will have the same marching bands again this year. They will certainly have the New Rochelle High School Marching Band again because this is their city. The Iona College Marching Band will probably do it again because they are also from New Rochelle. The Monroe College Marching Band from the Bronx will probably also do it again, as they seem to be a part of it every year.

While they haven’t exactly specified how they will be featuring superheroes this year, it can be assumed that it will be similar to or the same as how they were featured last year. In last year’s parade, there was a float that featured superheroes such as The Flash, Wonder Woman, and The Thing from Fantastic Four. It also turns out that the Paw Patrol characters are not a new addition to this year’s parade, as they were also in the parade in 2022.

While they have not revealed which balloons they are going to have this year, there are some that they have every year that will surely return for the 2023 parade. One of these is a character called Tom the Turkey, who they have every year because it’s a Thanksgiving parade. Another balloon that they have every year is the old cartoon character Mighty Mouse, who appears to be the first balloon every year. He is always in the parade because the studio that created him, Terrytoons Studio, was located in New Rochelle. Another balloon that they seem to have every year is Bob the Builder, so it can be assumed they will have him again this year. Some other balloons that they have had include a character from My Little Pony, Popeye, Elmo, Peppa Pig, Cat in the Hat, and many others.

It can also be assumed that there will be a Grand Marshall this year that is important to the city of New Rochelle. In 2018, it was former president of the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Frank Miceli, and in 2022, it was city manager Chuck Strome and retired parks commissioner Bill Zimmermann.

So if you want to go to a fun Thanksgiving parade or make a whole weekend out of it with Stamford the next day, go to New Rochelle!
