Lasdon Park

If you want to see one of the most beautiful places in Northern Westchester, just head over to Lasdon Park in Katonah!

Lasdon Park was originally purchased by the Lasdon family in 1939, who had an interest in horticulture and brought many tree specimens to the estate. The property was later purchased by Westchester County in 1986.

Today, the park contains many gardens and an arboretum. The arboretum is 30 acres and has woodlands, grass meadows, and gardens that have trees, shrubs, and flowers from all around the world. The gardens there include an azalea garden, a dwarf conifer collection, many types of magnolias, historic trees, hedges, American chestnut trees, and dogwood trees. The park also has a Chinese friendship garden that features a pavilion, and a dinosaur garden for kids that features models of various types of dinosaurs.

The park also has a variety of events coming up. One of these events is one that happens every Tuesday called Gardening Tuesdays. This is where you will improve your plant knowledge and gardening skills by working alongside the gardeners at Lasdon Park. Some of the tasks you will learn how to do are planting, watering, weeding, pruning, staking, deadheading, and potting up. This event is scheduled for every upcoming Tuesday and will go from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Another event that they have coming up is the Holidays on the Hill Train Show. It is an annual holiday model train exhibit that is in the conservatory building. It starts when you first walk through the conservatory plaza, which is going to be transformed into a winter wonderland with holiday exhibits. Inside the conservatory, there will be trains going along twelve multi-level tracks, over bridges, through tunnels, under waterfalls, and by quaint holiday scenes that are all framed with colorful seasonal plants and decorations. This event will run on weekends starting on November 26 and will go from 10:00 to 4:00.

So if you want to see some cool plants and go to some fun events, head over to Lasdon Park!
