Run The Farm

If you are looking for an event that is both fun for the entire family and will also give you a good workout, head on over to Muscoot Farm in Katonah!

On October 22, Muscoot Farm will be holding its 12th annual Run the Farm. The event is a race that takes you around the entire farm and its trails. For people who have kids that want to take part in the race, there will be two smaller races for them. The first race, which is for kids ages 7-12, will start at 8:30 AM and is 1.1 miles. The second race, which is for kids who are six years old and younger, will start 15 minutes later at 8:45 AM and is 0.6 miles long.

The big race will start at 9:30 AM and is five miles long. The course for this race passes through farm roads, forests, meadows, steep hills, and over stone walls. There is also one point along the course that crosses a wooden bridge, as well as some seasonal streams. There are two large hills along the course, one at the one-mile mark that is long but not overly steep, and one at the three-mile mark that is a quarter mile long and starts out steep and gets steeper towards the top.

The course itself starts at the gate to the farm road near the chicken enclosure, and then travels between the buildings that house the farm’s animals. Then it goes up the hill past the Muscoot Gazebo and leaves the road to go onto a meadow trail for a while before intersecting with another trail. Once the trails end, it goes back onto the farm road, over a set of boardwalks, past a pond, a dock platform and bench, and then it goes through a pumpkin meadow. It then rejoins the meadow trail, at which point you start to head back to where you started.

It is suggested that you arrive 30 minutes early. So go ahead and have some fun and exercise at the farm!
