D23 In Sleepy Hollow

As some of you might know, over the summer, The Walt Disney Company held their D23 exhibit from August 9 to 11 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. For those of you who are curious as to what this all means, D23 is the official fan club for The Walt Disney Company, and it is known for its biennial exposition event, which showcases models, tests, and concepts for upcoming attractions at the parks, celebrity appearances, pop-up stores with exclusive merchandise, and announcements and sneak peeks for upcoming movies. This is not the only type of event that they hold, as they also offer one called Destination D, which is a smaller biennial event that alternates with the expo that is held at the Contemporary Resort in Walt Disney World, a walking tour of Walt Disney Studios, several Halloween events, an exhibition in Seoul, South Korea, and an event that will be the focus of this blog post, D23 Heads Back to the Hollow.

D23 Heads Back to the Hollow is an event that will be happening in Tarrytown in Northern Westchester, which celebrates the history of Sleepy Hollow. This is not a new event, as I remember seeing that it happened a few years ago, and they also had Bret Iwan, one of the current voices of Mickey Mouse there as a guest.

This year, the event is going to be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Disney classic “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” and lets guests discover the legend for themselves while honoring 150 years of the town of Sleepy Hollow, which is the setting of Washington Irving’s original fairy tale.

The event will start at 11:00 AM at the performance venue the Tarrytown Music Hall, where D23 members will have reserved viewing to the marquee presentation of the Sleepy Hollow International Film Festival, the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Disney animated classic “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. This will be hosted by Walt Disney Archives director Becky Cline and other guests, and they will show people in attendance a selection of film shorts and surprises, a behind the scenes look at the classic film, and more.

When the screening of the movie is over, guests will have the chance to explore historic Tarrytown, with a self-guided tour of various points of interest. At this time, guests will make their way to the Old Dutch Church and Cemetery, which is also the same church where Ichabod Crane was choirmaster, as well as the final resting place of the author Washington Irving for tours and stories of the author and people who inspired the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In order to effectively plan your day, guests will register for specific tour time closer to the actual event date.

In the evening, members of D23 will be brought to Kingsland Point Park for a big celebration. This celebration will consist of live entertainment, light appetizers, beverages, desserts, and spectral hayrides set in the picturesque surroundings of the Hudson Valley. Guests at this event will not only receive a special credential, but they will also get an exclusive event gift, which is a D23-exclusive limited edition “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” pin created specifically for this special anniversary.

If you want to go to this event, you will have to be a member of D23, and even then, tickets are still expensive, as for general members, it costs $299 with an additional $7 processing fee, while for gold members, it costs $244 with an additional $7 processing fee. While I understand that most of you reading are not D23 members, I felt that this was a cool event to share with all of you, and I hope that might have inspired some of you to become members and go to the event.
