Westchester Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurants

Image
One of the highest achievements a restaurant can have is a Michelin Star, as this indicates that it is a restaurant worth going out of your way to visit. The reason why I am bringing this up is because the guide also has a feature called the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which are restaurants that offer exceptionally good food at moderate prices, and in November of last year, they shared the names of the restaurants that they added, and fourteen of them are in Westchester! In this post, I will discuss all the restaurants that they recommended, and hopefully it will convince you to go to some or all of them. The first restaurant that they recommended is right here in Mount Kisco. It is a Georgian restaurant called Badageoni. They have a great menu that consists of soups, stews, salads, pan-fried Cornish hens, cold plates, hot plates, salmon dishes, stir fry, baked breads, Georgian dumplings, and charcoal grilled meat. The foods that sound the most interesting to me are the Pkhali, which are sp...

Cortlandt Town Center

Image
As many of you are probably aware, there are a lot of shopping centers in Westchester County. In my opinion one of the most fascinating is the Cortlandt Town Center in Cortlandt Manor. The reason why I think it’s so unique is because it has so many big tenants for a shopping center in Northern Westchester. It also happens to be a special type of shopping center called a power center, which typically has 250,000 to 600,000 square feet of businesses. In this post, I will be talking briefly about its history, and then going over its tenant roster.  It originally opened in 1975 as an enclosed mall called the Westchester Mall which I found fascinating, as there is nothing there currently that suggests that it used to be a mall. I could not find any information on this mall or how long it was open, but I was able to find that the shopping center as it currently is first opened in 1997. It was originally made from buildings that made up the original mall, with many new buildings being add...

Norwalk Oyster Festival

Image
If you are looking for an exciting event to go to next month, head on over to Norwalk! On Friday September 6, Saturday September 7, and Sunday September 8, the Norwalk Seaport Association will be holding the annual Norwalk Oyster Festival at Veterans Park near the Long Island Sound. This is a festival that first started in 1978, and funds raised by it help the Seaport Association maintain the Sheffield Island Lighthouse as well as develop science education classes. In this post, I will be discussing all the features at the festival, in hopes that it will convince you to go check it out.  One of the main features at the festival is a series of tents that are described as being the New England Village. I remember from going there in the past that some of the tents are for some of the sponsors like the local radio stations and businesses, as well as some vendors, as I remember getting a pretzel and fudge from there in past years. Other tents there sell items like handcrafted jewelry, ...

Trumbull Mall

Image
If you ever find yourself in Fairfield County, one place you might want to check out is the Trumbull Mall! This is a mall that originally opened in 1964, has a total of 169 stores, and has three anchor tenants. In this post, I will discuss the history of the mall, the stores that it has, upcoming events, and plans for big changes at the mall.  As I already said, the mall first opened in 1964, and it was also the first enclosed shopping mall in Connecticut. It was developed by the Frogue Corporation, acquired by Australian mall operator Westfield Group in 1977, had ownership and management transferred to the Westfield Corporation in 2014, and then to Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield in 2018, and was sold to Namdar Realty Group in early 2023. The mall has also had several unique tenants over the years that have since closed. These include clothing stores like Jordan Marsh, Abraham & Straus, Steve & Barry’s, and UNIQLO, restaurants like Ruby Tuesday and Wahlburgers, and electronics s...

Ridge Hill

Image
There are many fascinating shopping centers in Westchester County, but one of the most fascinating is certainly Ridge Hill in Yonkers! Stylized after a modern town square and having 67 businesses with some on an outdoor second floor and parking lots that are behind the stores so you feel like you’re walking in an outdoor mall, as well as having fountains and a playground, this is one place that you will want to check out. In this post, I will be talking about its history, its business directory, upcoming events, and changes that are being made to it. The center itself sits on an 84-acre piece of land that was purchased from the city of Yonkers and plans to make that land a site that would help stimulate job growth go back as far as 2000. Construction of the center officially began in 2007, with a scheduled opening date of 2009, however, due to the economic recession, the completion of the center was pushed back until 2011, when it opened on October 20.  The first business at the ce...
