New York Comedy Club In Stamford

The city of Downtown Stamford has seen many exciting changes in recent years. One of these changes is the opening of the New York Comedy Club at the Stamford Town Center. The venue opened on February 25, 2023, and has seen much success since then.

It opened in the restaurant plaza at the mall following the loss of many businesses due to the pandemic, and it makes me happy that they were able to get such a lucrative tenant at a time when they are struggling financially. It also helps them stand out from nearby competition like the Danbury Mall and the SONO Collection. Since it has opened, it has had a variety of comedians perform there, some of which are probably local to the area, and some of which are celebrities that many people have probably heard of. The website for the venue has the names and descriptions for all the comedians that have performed there, so I am now going to talk about some of the comedians that have performed there and are going to perform there that I recognized just from reading their names.

One comedian that they had recently was Kevin McDonald, who is one of the founding members of the legendary Canadian sketch comedy troupe “The Kids in the Hall.” I recognized his name as he was the voice of Agent Pleakley in the movie “Lilo & Stitch” and all the media that followed afterwards, and I heard his voice in so many other shows on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network growing up.

Another comedian the venue has had whose name I recognized for a different reason was one named Motts Pelazza. The reason why I recognized his name is because he has been one of the hosts at one of the reviewing stands at the Stamford Balloon Parade every year, and he appeared in an “Impractical Jokers” punishment that was filmed in Stamford.

Another comedian that performed there during its first few months of operation was Dean Edwards, who is best known for his time as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” and for voicing the character of Donkey in “Shrek” media that they were unable to get Eddie Murphy for, as he had impersonated him in the past. I recognized him as he played Chris Tucker during a “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch on “Saturday Night Live.”

Another comedian that performed there whose name I recognized was Damien Lemon, who I remember hosted the TruTV show “Comedy Knockout.”

Another comedian that performed there whose name I recognized as well was Orlando Jones, who I remembered seeing online that he was a cast member on the show “Mad TV.” Another reason I was familiar with him is because he was a panelist on an episode of “Match Game.”

As the months went by, the venue started adding more names that I was familiar with. They were the kind of names that when I saw them, I was amazed they were booked to perform there, and happy about the comedians the venue was able to get.

The first of these comedians was Michael Rapaport, who I was already familiar with due to his guest appearance on “The Big Bang Theory,” his role in the movie “Hitch,” his appearances on talk shows and game shows, and shortly after his show here, his time on The Masked Singer.

The second of these comedians was David Koechner, who I knew very well from his roles in “The Office” and both “Anchorman” movies.

The third of these comedians was one that got me really excited to hear was going to be in Stamford, Caroline Rhea from “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” What made me excited was that she was somebody I was already very familiar with from her appearances on many of the game shows that I watch, such as “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Celebrity Name That Tune,” “To Tell The Truth,” and she was a regular panelist on “Match Game,” even being a panelist on one of the episodes I saw get taped.

Another exciting show that the venue had recently was Pete Davidson, who is in my opinion, a rising star who is currently at the highest point of his career. What stands out about his show there is that it was announced on January 29, days before it was scheduled to happen on February 4 at 7:00, and then sold out immediately, leading to another show being added at 9:30, and being announced that same day.

On February 25, the venue held its one year anniversary by having a show that featured a lineup of their favorite comics, Jessica Levin, Phil Duckett, Chuck Nice, and Brendan Sagalow. The event also had a superfan mix-and-mingle and raffle prizes from their community partners.

They also have some more recognizable names performing shows there in the next few months.

On March 29 and March 30, the venue will be having a total of four shows from Emmy and SAG-nominated actor and comedian Kevin Nealon. He is best known for his time as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” and for appearing on the show “Weeds.” I am already familiar with him from his appearances in several Adam Sandler movies and from his appearances on game shows like “Celebrity Name Game,” “Celebrity Name That Tune,” and “To Tell The Truth,” so I think it’s cool that he will be performing so close to me.

On April 27, the venue will have two shows from comedian, actress, writer, and producer Amanda Seales. She is another celebrity that I have become familiar with through her appearances on many game shows like “Fast Foodies,” “To Tell The Truth,” “Hollywood Game Night,” “Celebrity Name That Tune,” and “Match Game,” and it’s always cool to find out that someone I have seen on TV many times is going to be performing in the area.

On June 14 and June 15, the venue will have four shows from one of the longest serving Saturday Night Live cast members, Chris Kattan. He has also starred in movies like “Night at the Roxbury,” “Corky Romano,” and “Undercover Brother.” I know him from his appearances on “Dancing with the Stars,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” “To Tell The Truth,” the game show “The Wheel,” and his recent appearance at the Hollywood Christmas Parade, and again, I think it’s great that someone who was part of an iconic show and appeared in many other shows and movies is going to be doing shows in Stamford.

Overall, these comedians that they have booked since opening has me excited for their future, and it also has me wondering what other comedians they will book in the future. I hope that this post has convinced you to get some tickets and go see some amazing comedy in Stamford!
