Westchester's Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru Holiday Light Extravaganza

If you are looking for the perfect event to celebrate the holiday season, head over to Valhalla!

From November 24 to December 31, the town of Valhalla will be having its annual Winter Wonderland Drive-thru Holiday Light Extravaganza at Kensico Dam Plaza. This event used to be much larger, with rides, ice skating, and even a circus. They were forced to turn the event into a drive-thru format during 2020 due to the pandemic and have decided not to go back to that format ever since.

The event itself currently consists of a 1.2-mile drive-thru that has thousands of Christmas lights. Along the route will be some of the usual favorites that people have come to expect. These include two elves named Ned and Albert, angels of peace and a 50-foot dove, dancing trees, glowing snowballs, candy cane lane, a 100-foot light tunnel, and a 40-foot Christmas tree.

In addition to these regular favorites, there will also be some new additions this year. One new addition will be a character named Snowball the elf, who will be interacting with kids there from the ice house, which is described as being kept cool in the breeze of Old Man Winter. There will also be a new addition called the Transporter Tunnel, which is a 175-foot-long glowing string tunnel with a central stargate running along the middle. Another addition for this year is Rudolph’s Runway, which is colorful light tubes that usher you into and out of the north pole. They have also added more lights surrounding what they describe as the largest holiday Christmas tree in Westchester.

Going through the entire drive-thru is expected to take 20-25 minutes if there is no traffic but will take longer on nights where there is heavy traffic. It is also recommended that you arrive at any time within the 15-minute reservation window you have selected. Once you start along the route, you will not be allowed to leave your vehicle. You will be allowed to take pictures, but only if you are a passenger, as drivers are not allowed to take pictures. The park itself will still be open while this event is happening, but it will close an hour before the event starts, and all guests must leave the park by 4:00 PM.

The event itself is rain or shine. So get your tickets and go see some beautiful Christmas lights!
