Central Park Avenue

Image
As you might remember, I wrote about the Greenburgh Nature Center a while back. As you might have guessed, it is in an area that is surrounded by deep woods. What you might not have guessed is that an area surrounded by deep woods is off to the side of one of the busiest roads in Westchester County, Central Park Avenue. It starts in White Plains as Central Avenue, continues into Hartsdale where it becomes Central Park Avenue, keeps going into Scarsdale, and finishes in Yonkers. Along the road are several shopping centers that contain many big retailers. In this blog post, I will be writing about some of the highlights along Central Park Avenue in hopes that it might convince you to check it out.  One of the first shopping centers you’ll see on Central Park Avenue is called Westchester Square, and it’s located in Hartsdale. It features a variety of retailers, including three main anchor tenants which are clothing store Marshall’s, grocery store Trader Joe’s, and electronics store Be...

Halloween In Westchester County

Image
If you have been wondering what sort of Halloween events you can go to for the remainder of the month, I will gladly share it with you all! As I live in Westchester County, I will be writing about events that will be happening there. The first event is perfect for a family with kids. It’s at the Legoland Discovery Center in Yonkers, and it’s called Brick-or-Treat. This is where kids can go on a scavenger hunt, create their own magical potion, and have meet-and-greets with several characters. If you want to go to this event, it goes until October 31. The next event is one that I have written about before, and it’s also one of the most popular events in the Hudson Valley at Halloween. I am talking about The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson. This event features 7000 hand-carved, illuminated jack-o’-lanterns in a variety of forms, such as a pumpkin carousel and bridge and a river display, as well as synchronized lighting and an original soundtrack. If y...

New Rochelle ArtsFest

Image
If you are looking for a fun and interesting event to go to this month, head on over to New Rochelle! From October 17 to October 20, the New Rochelle Council on the Arts will be holding their annual ArtsFest. This is an event that started in 2009 and has since become a fall tradition. The event celebrates the arts in New Rochelle and Pelham with art exhibits, open artists’ studios, live music and dance, spoken word, a maker’s market, a classic car show, and many other things. In this blog post, I will be discussing all the things you can do at this event on all four days in hopes that it might interest you enough to want to go.  There are five activities at this event that you can do all weekend. The first activity is open artists’ studios, which is where local artists will be opening their studios to the public. The second activity is Songcatchers Community Music Pop-Up, which is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable access to high quality music education and enrichmen...

Danbury Fair Mall

Image
If you enjoy going to shopping malls in the area, there is a good chance that you have been to the Danbury Fair Mall. This is a 1,226,000 square foot mall that has 192 businesses, six anchor tenants, a variety of events throughout the year, and is also the second largest shopping mall in the state of Connecticut. In this post, I will be discussing the history of the mall, some of its fun features and events, and all the businesses there in hopes that those of you who have never been there will want to go, and those of you who haven’t been there in a while will want to go there again.  The mall was built on land that was formerly used for the yearly exhibition the Danbury Fair, and it opened in 1986 with Sears and G. Fox & Co. as anchor tenants, both of which have since closed. Several other anchor tenants opened in the following years, and some of them also closed either due to bankruptcy or the pandemic, such as Filene’s, Lord & Taylor, and Forever 21. The mall also experi...
