As some of you might remember, I have written about nearby performance venues in the past and the shows they had coming up at the time. Today, I will be going back to talk about several of the venues that I have already written about to share with you some of the new shows they have announced, as well as some venues that I haven’t already written about in hopes that any of the shows I share with you might make you want to buy some tickets.  The first venue that I will be talking about is District Music Hall in Norwalk, Connecticut. They have a few exciting shows coming up, including a show from singer Billy Bragg with special guest Steven Page from Barenaked Ladies, a performance from folk singer Josh Ritter, a performance from the band Soul Asylum, a performance from the band The Disco Biscuits, a show from singers Aimee Mann and Ted Leo that will also feature comedian Paul F. Greenburgh Nature Center

Image
There are many places in Westchester County where you can go and explore nature, and today I am going to talk about another one, the Greeburgh Nature Center in Scarsdale. This is a 33-acre nature preserve that has trails, a pond, and gardens. In this post, I will be discussing its history and everything it has to offer in hopes that it might encourage all of you reading to go to it. Its history starts back in 1973, when residents of the Town of Greenburgh voted to allocate funds of what was then known as the “Hall Estate,” and funds were also secured by a federal grant through the Land Water Conservation Fund, which made it the first Greenburgh property acquired specifically to protect wildlife. In 1975, the Hall Estate officially became the Greenburgh Nature Center. From the start, the group that was working to save the site believed that it should be a refuge for wildlife, with an active educational program to promote the appreciation and understanding of nature and the environment. ...

D23 In Sleepy Hollow

Image
As some of you might know, over the summer, The Walt Disney Company held their D23 exhibit from August 9 to 11 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. For those of you who are curious as to what this all means, D23 is the official fan club for The Walt Disney Company, and it is known for its biennial exposition event, which showcases models, tests, and concepts for upcoming attractions at the parks, celebrity appearances, pop-up stores with exclusive merchandise, and announcements and sneak peeks for upcoming movies. This is not the only type of event that they hold, as they also offer one called Destination D, which is a smaller biennial event that alternates with the expo that is held at the Contemporary Resort in Walt Disney World, a walking tour of Walt Disney Studios, several Halloween events, an exhibition in Seoul, South Korea, and an event that will be the focus of this blog post, D23 Heads Back to the Hollow. D23 Heads Back to the Hollow is an event that will be happen...

Ridgeway Shopping Center

Image
I recently made a blog post about the Cortlandt Town Center, and in that blog post, I said that it is what is referred to as a power center, or a shopping center with 250,000 to 600,000 square feet that contains three or more big box anchor tenants and several smaller retailers. This research brought me to Wikipedia, where I found out about other power centers, including another one that is nearby that I have been to several times and will be the focus of today’s blog post, Ridgeway Shopping Center in Stamford.  Ridgeway Shopping Center in Stamford is a 365,411 square foot shopping center that has five anchor tenants as well as a variety of smaller retailers. In this post, I will be discussing its history as well as all the tenants there, in hopes that it will convince all of you reading to go there.  The center itself was originally designed in 1946 by designer and architect Alfons Bach, and opened on March 26, 1947, with a few retail tenants opening as well. A few years late...

Septemberfest

Image
Every September, the village of Mount Kisco holds an event on the streets of downtown. It started off as Sidewalk Sales, before evolving into a big celebration called SeptemberFest. In this blog post, I will be talking about the history of the event and how it has changed over time, and what to probably expect with this year’s event. I don’t know exactly when the event first started, but I found an article that said that it had been happening for more than four decades, and as I already said, it used to be the Mount Kisco Sidewalk Sales. At this event, a bunch of local businesses would set up tables promoting themselves and selling products along South Moger Avenue. In the parking lot behind South Moger, there would be a few games, and options for food. I remember that one year one of the games was a dunk tank, another game that I remember them having was a wheel that you would spin and then you would get a prize based on where it landed, and I think there was also a plinko game. At a ...
