The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze

Image
If you are looking for an exciting event to go to this Halloween, head over to Croton-on-Hudson! From now until November 19, you can go to the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor! This is an event that has been around since 2005 and has only grown over the years. It features more than 7,000 hand carved pumpkins along the grounds of the old estate. Walking through the entire path of jack o’lanterns is said to take a total of 45 minutes, but some guests walk through it even longer because they are looking at how impressive the pumpkins are.  What has made this such an iconic event not only for Westchester County but for all of New York state, is how much work is put into making these massive pumpkin sculptures. While there are standard jack o’lanterns with faces carved into them throughout the trail, the jack o’lanterns are used to make many different sculptures that can best be described as artwork. There is a tunnel that people can walk through that is covered with ja...

Arts & Crafts On Bedford

Image
If you are looking for the next fun event in Stamford Downtown, head over to Bedford Street for an arts and crafts festival! The event will be happening on October 14 from 10:00-6:30. It was originally scheduled for September 9, but the weather prevented it from happening that day, and they needed to find a day that would work for all the exhibitors they were scheduled to have.  It will feature artists who make all sorts of handcrafted goods that people can buy. Bedford Street restaurants will also be offering extended outdoor patio cafes.  One of the most fascinating exhibitors that will be there is ACKnots, a company that makes art and bracelets that are inspired by Nantucket. What makes them so interesting is that they make different types of knots in different sized picture frames. The three types of knots they offer up are Carrick knots, twisted knots, and reef knots. Their bracelets are also unique because they all have knots in them as well.  Another exhibitor that...

Run The Farm

If you are looking for an event that is both fun for the entire family and will also give you a good workout, head on over to Muscoot Farm in Katonah! On October 22, Muscoot Farm will be holding its 12th annual Run the Farm. The event is a race that takes you around the entire farm and its trails. For people who have kids that want to take part in the race, there will be two smaller races for them. The first race, which is for kids ages 7-12, will start at 8:30 AM and is 1.1 miles. The second race, which is for kids who are six years old and younger, will start 15 minutes later at 8:45 AM and is 0.6 miles long.  The big race will start at 9:30 AM and is five miles long. The course for this race passes through farm roads, forests, meadows, steep hills, and over stone walls. There is also one point along the course that crosses a wooden bridge, as well as some seasonal streams. There are two large hills along the course, one at the one-mile mark that is long but not overly steep, and...

Pound Ridge Harvest Festival

Image
Northern Westchester, I hope you’re all ready for one of the biggest Autumn celebrations in the area! On Saturday, October 7, come on down to the Pound Ridge Town Park and enjoy the Pound Ridge Harvest Festival! This is an event that has been around since 2011, and while it initially started as a small fundraiser for the town that took place in the small business district, it has since grown to feature beer gardens, Oktoberfest-style food, activities for everybody, and music from artists that are known around the world. For food and drink options, there will be food from local vendors, a variety of food trucks, a wine and beer garden for adults, and a root beer garden for kids. Snack options there for kids include cotton candy, caramel apples, popcorn, and apple cider donuts.  One of the interesting stand outs at the event is all the activities for kids there. One of these is what is called a “wizardry experience,” where kids will have the opportunity to make their own wand, go on ...

Tarrytown Music Hall Ghost Tours

Image
For those of you who are looking for something to do around Halloween, look no further than the Tarrytown Music Hall!  Throughout the month of October, the venue will be holding Ghost Tours of the Music Hall. These tours will take place in both daytime and nighttime and will last 45 minutes. It will also be hosted by Jonathan Kruk, who is described as a “master storyteller,” and has also done solo shows and appeared on shows like the Today Show. The reason for why these ghost tours happen at the Tarrytown Music Hall has to do with the history of the building itself. It was built back in 1885 during the “Millionaire’s Colony” era and is described as a reflection of the human spirit that mirrors the current events of the town and the rest of the world. The venue is also said to be a vessel through which many people pass, and some never leave. These people that have never left have helped make the venue an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. It has also been invest...
